The short answer
Define tolerances around the bottle features that matter to closure fit, filling, labelling and packing. Use the approved drawing and an agreed measurement method rather than a universal tolerance for every dimension.
A general statement that dimensions may vary is not enough for production approval. Buyers need to identify which differences can affect the operation of the complete pack.
Prioritize functional dimensions
Discuss neck interfaces, overall height, body width and other equipment contact points with the relevant teams. Identify how each critical feature will be measured and which specification revision applies.
Connect inspection with acceptance
Agree the sample selection, gauges or methods and the handling of nonconforming results. Keep dimensional records linked to the shipment. Use appearance samples to supplement, rather than replace, measurable criteria.
Procurement checklist
- Mark critical dimensions on the drawing.
- Define measurement points and methods.
- Confirm closure and equipment requirements.
- Agree sampling and acceptance rules.
- Record results against the correct revision.
Common question
Should every dimension use the same tolerance?
Not automatically. Functional requirements, geometry and the relevant specification should guide the tolerance review. Obtain technical agreement for the actual design.
