The short answer
Define the usable label panel from the actual bottle drawing and application trial. Keep artwork clear of shoulders, base transitions, embossing and other areas that affect adhesion or registration.
A large front face does not necessarily provide an equally large flat label area. Curvature, taper and mould features can affect how the label sits and how consistently it can be applied.
Use a full-size label mock-up
Apply the proposed label material to representative glass, not only a digital rendering. Check wrinkles, edge lift, alignment and the appearance of transparent or metallic elements.
Connect artwork with line setup
Share the dieline, label orientation and registration requirements with the applicator team. Identify any orientation feature needed for the bottle. Confirm tolerances before fixing the artwork near panel boundaries.
Procurement checklist
- Request the usable panel dimensions.
- Allow clearance around surface transitions.
- Trial the actual label and adhesive.
- Confirm bottle orientation during application.
- Approve artwork on a representative bottle.
Common question
Can a rectangular label be applied to every tapered bottle?
Not necessarily. Taper and curvature can require a different label shape or application method. Test the proposed label before approving production artwork.
