The short answer

Compare surface treatments by the intended appearance, process, decoration compatibility and durability evidence. Ask the supplier to identify how the proposed finish is achieved.

The word frosted describes an appearance but may not identify the production route. Similar-looking samples can have different surface characteristics and handling requirements.

Specify the finish clearly

Request the process description, coverage and approved visual reference. Identify areas that must remain untreated for sealing, labels or equipment. Review how the treatment interacts with printing, metallic effects and other decoration.

Test the complete decorated assembly

Check appearance, touch, marking and handling under agreed conditions. Evaluate packing materials against the finished surface. Do not extend the approval of one coating or treatment to an untested combination.

Procurement checklist

  1. Identify the proposed surface-treatment route.
  2. Mark treated and untreated areas.
  3. Approve a physical finish reference.
  4. Check compatibility with labels and printing.
  5. Agree handling and durability evaluation.

Common question

Are all frosted-looking bottles produced by the same method?

No. Ask how the appearance is created and assess the actual process and finished sample proposed for the project.
